MUST READ: TASSELS MAKE COMEBACK ON BALMAIN RUNWAY

Strap and buckle your boots, let’s saddle up on this new wave of frill and fun.

Trends are always changing and rearranging, but the fashion world is seeing a return to the western one. Balmain achieves the perfect balance of silhouettes with subtle accents on handbags and jewelry to show the eccentric movement of the tassels. For this year’s Fashion weeks, specifically in Paris, we are seeing a wide variety and range of new looks, but most the trends are pointing towards westernized or indigenous inspired looks. Oliver Rousteing’s ready to wear collection is nothing short of this, paying homage to the “boundless earth and those who travel it”. The runway is very elegant and simple with lots of room for the designs to shine through. Many of which have elements from our world and cascading tassels.

With the term “western” reinventing itself and currently being pushed by many groups on social media, educating the true history of clothing items and accessories such as tassels couldn’t be more important. This influence on social media is pressuring the fashion world to redesign and reclaim such articles of clothing. Online social media presents the new wave of searching styles via “aesthetics”. This way of specifying clothes is proving to play in favor of the generalization and stereotyping of clothing and others as we’ve seen over time.

The fashion world is always up for criticism and there’s certainly a lot of room for change. While fashion is taking something and making it your own, there’s no denying the inspirations designers draw from. Fashion is past-made-present, and this runway is a perfect showcase.
