On October 6th, 2025, Condé Nast bans fur from all advertisements after years of protests! The change finally happened due to animal rights groups putting pressure on Condé Nast.
This will affect all of Condé Nast’s publications, including Vogue. This will be a major switch for Vogue considering their former editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, was a very well-known fur advocate.

Condé Nast will be joining other major brands such as Prada, Versace, Chanel, and many others by going fur free! Elle banned fur from their sites back in 2021 due to animal welfare. The United States aren’t the only ones moving away from fur. The United Kingdom, Italy, and Norway have also all banned fur.
Due to a TikTok trend, fur was starting to make a comeback. This was causing Vogue to publish more articles about the return of vintage fur and faux fur. This, however, did not stop Condé Nast from banning the publications of advertisements and editorials of fur. Campaigns and protests have been going on in stores, outside events, and outside the homes of Condé Nast’s editors. There have also been protests going on inside stores affiliated with Condé Nast. Protests have been going on for years making changes to brands like Calvin Klein.

There are some exceptions to the ban, however. The only exceptions are “byproducts,” and “Indigenous practices” which are not banned from the publications. The ban on real fur has now put more focus on the debate on the synthetic alternative, faux fur, and its sustainability.
